Celebrating Port Washington’s African-American Heritage
The men and women featured in the Library’s Digital Exhibit, African-American Heritage share a common tradition – whether their roots in Port Washington go back over two centuries, or they came here during the Great Migration of the 1920’s. It is based on shared customs and values that have been passed down to them through the generations. Featured in this online exhibit are numerous photographs from the Library’s archives and oral history recordings conducted during 1980 and 1981 as part of an oral history project sponsored by the Library.
