Dear Library Patrons,
We have been carefully monitoring developments related to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), a respiratory illness which is spread from person to person. Because our first priority is always to protect our patrons and staff – particularly those in at-risk populations – we have decided to postpone all programs and meetings scheduled at the Library through Sunday, March 22. All meeting rooms, including the small study rooms, will be closed during this time.
We take this step out of an abundance of caution. We want to emphasize that at this time we are not aware of any staff member or patron who has contracted the virus. It is also noteworthy that our decision, while difficult, is consistent with the actions taken by the Town of North Hempstead, which has suspended public programs for the next few weeks.
We are working to reschedule postponed events for a later date, when possible, and refund program registrants if necessary.
Currently, the Library remains open for normal hours. Enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures are taking place throughout the Library. As a precaution, we have also temporarily removed the toys and puzzles from our Children’s Library.
We are continuing to advise all our patrons, as well as our staff, to follow CDC guidelines by:
- Staying home if you are not feeling well
- Regularly washing your hands
- Avoiding individuals who are sick
- Avoiding crowded areas if you are an at-risk individual as defined by the CDC.
We will continue to communicate any further impacts to the Library as a result of Coronavirus by email, on our website, pwpl.org, and on our Facebook page. In the meantime, as a reminder, the Library has many digital services available to you for free, such as e-books and e-audiobooks; streaming TV, movie, and music services; and digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines.
Please know you can contact me anytime with questions or concerns at library@pwpl.org or by phone at 516-883-4400 ext. 1100
Sincerely,
Keith Klang, Library Director
