EARTH DAY CELEBRATION 2026

Saturday, April 25 from 12:00pm-4:00pm at the Library
Bach to Rock: 12:00pm to 1:30pm in the Lapham Room on the Lower Level of the Library

PWPL invites YOU to our sixth annual Earth Day celebration at the Library.  Bach to Rock will perform in the Lapham Room from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. Representatives from the Town of North Hempstead , along with many Port Washington environmental organizations, will be on site with important information about their latest sustainability initiatives from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

Bring your kids to the children’s table to make a fun eco craft. And the Library will be offering some environmentally conscious giveaways including native plants.  Most of all, find out important ways YOU can make a difference making our community a healthy and sustainable one. The Earth Day celebration is funded by the PWPL Friends of the Library.

Beginning on Sunday, March 1, 2026 visit the South Wing at the Library to pick up a packet of vegetable or herb seeds while supplies last.  You too can grow your own food and live more sustainably.  Generously sponsored by Plant A Row for the Hungry Port Washington.

Raised Bed Gardening Workshop
Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30pm
Looking to start your own vegetable garden in 2026 or improve your current method of growing produce? Plant A Row for the Hungry Board Member and longtime gardener Bruce Frey will demonstrate how to build a raised garden bed on your own. He will also provide details on the types of soil components to use as well as the best way to irrigate your raised bed to enable you to bring out the best from your gardening efforts.  No registration is required. Beyond the Bin: The Journey and Impact of Your Waste

Where does trash go once it’s taken from the curb? Join TTPW and Monique Fitzgerald, cofounder of the Brookhaven Landfill Action and Remediation Group (BLARG) for an informative evening about where our waste goes. We’ll explore the life cycle of plastic, focusing on the Brookhaven landfill, where a large portion of LI’s waste is kept. Learn how these wastelands affect the health of all. This discussion is led by passionate youth activists, educating the community, pushing towards a sustainable future. Sponsored by Transition Town Port Washington.
