Born in Tokyo and raised in Cairo, Nagi Sakai’s eclectic background lent him the opportunity to experience art in several cultures at a young age. His expertise and appreciation for creative expression and visual arts led him to the Dutch Institute of Art to study painting at the
age of seven. At sixteen he knew he was destined for photography after encountering famed Japanese photographer Naoki Ishizaka. Sakai spent several years perfecting his craft while assisting Ishizaka for such clients as Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons and many others. Although completing his academic degree in Commerce, Sakai’s strict ambition brought him to New York in 2000 after signing with his first agency representation.
Emerging strongly on the scene, Sakai’s talents have already been celebrated by such clients as Vogue Ukraine, Vogue Spain, Interview Germany, Love Want, Zoo Magazine, The Last Magazine, Porter magazine, HERO, Vanity Fair US, GQ style, GQ Italia. Gathering inspiration from the diversity of the arts, and fueled by his passion to express strength in beauty and sophisticated realism, Nagi Sakai’s profession has rapidly become his career.
