Rico Puhlmann (1934 – 1996) started out as a freelance fashion graphic designer in Berlin working for leading European magazines like Constanza, Burda as well as French VOGUE. He also created numerous advertising campaigns. Simultaneously he pursued fashion photography in the fifties. His work has been published among others in FILM UND FRAU, CONSTANZE, PETRA, BRIGITTE, STERN, and VOGUE. He directed remarkable fashion films for German TV – “Berliner Modejournal”, “Sounds und Silhouetten”, “Apollonia – Ein Fotomodell”.
In 1970 he moved to New York working as a permanent free lance photographer for the leading magazines like GLAMOUR, GQ, FASHIONS of THE TIMES and HARPER´S BAZAAR, shooting stories for numerous issues of these publications. Portraits of models and other celebrities include Isabella Rossellini, Cindy Crawford, Mel Gibson, Richard Avedon, Suzy Parker, Cheryl Tiegs, Naomi Campbell, Hildegard Knef and many others. In the 1970ties he designed his own blouse-collection, being distributed under the “Rico Puhlmann Design” label. While travelling to Paris on assignment, Puhlmann died tragically aboard TWA Flight 800 crash on July 17, 1996.
