Community Spotlight: Craig Thomas in Conversation with Wayne Wink

Join us at the Library on March 1 at 3:00pm for a discussion with Port Washington’s own Craig Thomas, co-creator of the Emmy-winning comedy series How I Met Your Mother, and published first novel That’s Not How It Happened, in conversation with local official Wayne Wink. AARP Tax Help

AARP Tax Help volunteers are available at the Library every Tuesday to help with preparing simple individual tax returns. You do not have to be an AARP member to sign up. Appointments will be on Tuesdays from 10am to 3 pm from February 3 through April 7, 2026. Due to overwhelming demand, only Port Washington Residents can make an appointment, starting on January 20. Please visit the Reference Desk in the South Wing or call the Library at (516) 883-4400, ext. 1400 to register.

Winter Book Bingo

Get ready for Library-Wide Winter Book Bingo! Starting February 2, readers of all ages— kids, teens, and adults—can join the fun by registering online or at any Library service desk. Race to be one of the first ten in your age group to score a bingo (5 in a row: across, down, or diagonally) and win an exciting prize! Remember, you can check off up to two boxes per book. Be sure to return your completed bingo cards to the Library by March 20. Open to PWPL patrons only. Let the reading adventure begin! Sponsored by Friends of the Library.

Pete Fornatale: Rock Radio Revolutionary

Pete Fornatale (1945-2012) was a longtime Port Washington resident and FM radio pioneer known for his eclectic music taste, insightful interviews with artists, and outspoken but measured commentary on the zeitgeist of the day. Over his nearly 50-year career as a DJ at New York stations WFUV, WNEW, and K-Rock, he inspired countless artists, industry players, and radio listeners. An exhibit of photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia celebrating Pete’s life, work, and far-reaching influence is now on display in the History Center Annex.

Raised Bed Gardening Workshop

Looking to start your own vegetable garden in 2026 or improve your current method of growing produce? Plant A Row for the Hungry Board Member and longtime gardener Bruce Frey will demonstrate how to build a raised garden bed on your own. He will also provide details on the types of soil components to use as well as the best way to irrigate your raised bed to enable you to bring out the best from your gardening efforts. No registration is required.

The demonstration and information session are being offered in conjunction with the Plant A Row for the Hungry exhibit on display in February in the Community Gallery.

Teen SAT Test Prep

Teens in grades 10-12 are invited to participate in this 2.5-hour intensive session designed to give students a focused review of key strategies and content for both the Math and Reading & Writing sections of the SAT. Taught by expert instructors, the course covers the most heavily tested concepts, offers proven test-taking techniques, and includes course materials with practice questions and notes. It’s the perfect final boost before test day or a strong starting point for continued prep. Teens should bring a laptop or Chromebook. Registration begins February 14.
