Women’s History in Port Washington
To celebrate Women’s History Month, we remember Virginia “Ginger” Marshall Martus (1930-2017), an incredible resident of Port Washington. Pictured here in 1984 and as a child in the 1930s, Ginger was a nautical historian, born and raised in Port Washington. She was very active in preserving the town’s maritime history and was an early member and trustee of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society. Over the course of several years, Ginger donated a collection of correspondence, photographs, articles, audiotapes and artifacts to the Local History Department that are a unique and valuable resource for the study of Port Washington’s changing landscape, many of which can be viewed online by clicking here.
